“Having spent just over a month as a student in Newcastle, I am already convinced that I made the right decision in coming here! From day one I felt warmly welcomed by the Law school, local ‘Geordies’ and students alike, which has made my transition from school to university so much easier. Freshers  week was a fantastic introduction to university life - meeting new people, joining societies and of course the odd night out! Being a student at Newcastle offers you endless opportunities; top class teaching, an amazing night out, lifelong friends and so much more….. come and experience it for yourself!”
Rick (last year’s 1st year rep)

“I would recommend Newcastle Law School to anyone considering law at degree level. As a first year student I am extremely impressed and certainly glad I chose to study here. The law school itself is quite small in comparison with other universities. This means you get to know people really quickly and you will always see someone you know in the common room or around the law school.

The lecturers are really helpful and there is no need to have studied law beforehand because they cover everything. Everyone in the school, the university and the city is very welcoming and they all want you to do well.

And what about the social scene? Well coming from a big city myself I didn't think it would be very different, but I was wrong. Newcastle is an amazing city and a fantastic night out everyday of the week. Plus there are always social events organised by the Eldon Society, 3-legged pub crawl to name one, and if you are in halls, the Junior Common Room.
I wish you the best of luck in your exams and I really hope you consider Newcastle Law School. I promise you won't regret it.”

“What can I say about my time at Newcastle? Well what can't I say?! The whole experience has been a fantastic one, due in no small part to the friendly and helpful staff, students and of course members of the Eldon society. They have helped me settle in by organising some of the best nights out you will ever go on! Don't believe me, in the first week, they organised to have a hypnotist come and work their magic on some of us. Watching your mates humping a chair is definitely one of those once in a lifetime opportunities! Then there's the three-legged pub crawl, world renowned (honest, that’s what it says on Google!) and fantastic fun, especially the part where you have to go to the toilet with the member of the opposite sex that you're tied to! And this is just in the first two weeks. Yes, we work hard, but we play hard too, and if that's the kind of place you want to be then there is nowhere better suited for you than Newcastle University! Come along to one of our open days to find out more.”
Laura (now a second year law student)

“In terms of settling in and general advice, I would highly recommend making the most of contacts in the year above, whether through friends or the mentoring scheme. It has been so helpful having a contact to consult, whether it regards specific modules, advice on work experience or generally ranting, for example, about the sanity (or lack thereof...) of most of the staff! It's really encouraging to hear that someone else has gone through the same thing and come out the other side.

Another small piece of advice is to make the most of the library and get used to using it in your first year. I always thought it was a fairly daunting place, but the staff are unwaveringly helpful and knowledgeable. If I'd have taken the time to familiarise myself with it in my first year, I would have saved myself the hassle in an altogether more demanding second year.

As for sport in the law department, it's a great way to meet people and inevitably develop valuable new drinking circles! Aside from that, it's a great thing to get involved with in terms of keeping up with your favourite sport without the commitment required in the University teams. There's a mixture of abilities and, as ever, a good measure of competitiveness.”
