Hi everyone, my name is Kim Obrusik and I am this year’s Careers Liason Officer.
It may seem early for some of you to be considering your future career, however your time at Newcastle will fly by and it’s important to consider your options at the earliest opportunity, and we are here to help you do this. Whether your future lies in the law or in one of the many other professions that law graduates are employed in, we hope to give you the opportunity to experience them all.
How can we help?
The Eldon Society is committed to helping students find a career path
which is right for them and this is achieved by maintaining a good
relationship with Jos Harrison at the University
Careers Service.
As a member of the Student Communications Team within the Careers Service,
I also have connections with other schools and societies within the University.
Events
Throughout the academic year many law firms and law schools are invited to speak at the University (please see the important dates calendar below) so that students can get a taster of what life within the law entails. The main event for law students at Newcastle is the Law Fair held at St. James Park, which hundreds of law firms attend as well as Law schools and barristers chambers, specifically to meet Newcastle students.
There are many events throughout the year, which students from the University have the opportunity to attend, including the National Pupillage Fair, which is held at Lincoln’s Inn in London, as well as the National Graduate Law Fair, the largest legal recruitment event in the UK. In addition, Newcastle students can attend presentations and dinners at the Inns of Court, which is extremely informative for those budding barristers.
For any students wishing to follow a non-legal career there are events such the Newcastle Graduate Recruitment Fair, which is attended by large firms across the country such as Deloitte and Price Waterhouse Coopers. There is also an open invitation for members of the law school to attend presentations in all other schools within the University.
